Interior Design as Therapy
-
During my work experience I came to the point that clients are looking for a therapeutic outcome from Interior Design. A client usually doesn't know what he wants, he can not imagine the whole space in details. I am here to help him identify his needs, find his style. Often clients want to build new habits in daily routine and I have to help them with this change. Decluttering, prioritizing things, creating a vision of the best day in his life in his home is actually my work. I never force on a certain style, but I suggest harmonious compositions, well balanced colour pallet and bring into the project knowledge of ergonomics and space functionality. My experience with furniture suppliers will ease the project execution process.
Natural Stone
-
The best natural stone for an interior design is a hand-selected one. Whether it be marble, onix, quartzite or travertine. To add uniqueness to an interior I create bespoke kitchens for clients, as well as some furniture pieces. As each piece will have a different texture, I carefully select the suitable slab for the design. I am collaborating with some great suppliers who are happy to offer an individual approach. Marble veining depends on the cut angle and the particular place of a quarry. Some stones have big patterns and are suitable for large scale furniture only. Dark marble on a working top will fetch out the acid stains. However, there are special ways to protect and maintain a natural stone such as sealing and poultice paste.

One of the most powerful decorative effects in design is the bookmatching technique. This technique creates a mirror image impression, much as the wings of a butterfly reflect each other. Nowadays design is elevating stone to a fine art. A dramatic marble such as Dalamata or Calacatta Macchiata makes a strong statement in the contemporary interior. These marble slabs can be compared to Motherwell’s expressive art pieces. Calacatta Viola will spice up any interior, be it a transitional style or contemporary one. Calacatta Gold will add subtle accents of gold through it's unique vail shimmer. Let me show you some examples of natural stones, which are creating a long lasting impression in today's interior.

Interior Design Trends
● Use statement colour for your affirmative temper. No more 50 shades of gray. This is one of the most visible trends. Be brave enough to use your favorite colour to highlight the interior. You can always moderate one vivid wall or a couch with a neutral palette decoration.
● Have an optimistic attitude towards scale. Monumental decor or an armchair can be the centerpiece of your home. To balance the scale just save enough space to move around in and watch the composition from a distance.
● Mix and match. Go for diverse textures and create your own mood. Keep in mind that a good contrast gives you a brave solution. A two-tone difference in colour between neighboring objects is better. Notice that vague, obscure composition can look like an unreadable chaos. Be firm in expression as authenticity is in self-identification.
Design fair
-
There are many international Design Fairs that I would recommend you to visit. Most known are: Maison&Objet in Paris, France;Salone del Mobile in Milano and I found very interesting in terms of business IMM in Colone, Germany.
-
The IMM design fair in Cologne is a huge international event where you can compare various countries’ achievements and procure furniture straight away. The Danish design made a big impression on me due to its organic functionality approach and respect towards space, silence and environment. The Italian masterly style brings courage, cosines and playfulness. I always combine them in my interiors.

Anti Trends
-
NO more sophisticated sofa shapes. The most functional couch is a neat, deep and minimalist one. The contour lines of furniture should be clear.
-
No more 50 shades of gray. A monochrome palette is not as popular as a sophisticated combination of colours and shades. Be careful not to make a mess and create a greyish unreadable composition.
-
No more glossy, plastic feeling finishes. Rough finishes; irregular surfaces and natural shapes help towards creating a handcraft feeling. Go for an authentic touch in your design.
Pros & Cons
-
Asymmetry can add flow to the space. I would suggest thinking more about the functionality of the space than the symmetry. Keep in mind that when it comes to the main axis of the space you can have the courage create a small asymmetric composition. But remember that a composition should be balanced so as to not fall apart.

Aluminium windows or uPVC windows? Plastic windows, also known as uPVC windows, are very cheap and that's why even though they are common, they are not the best solution. This type of plastic scratches easily and is difficult to keep clean. Aluminium tends to be stronger than uPVC, meaning that aluminium windows can have a slimmer frame, and a larger glass surface area. Powder-coated aluminium is extremely durable, which means whatever finish you choose will last for a long time.
